Council's named Collingwood Street circuit climbs into the Grampians and returns through Ronaki, Tawa and residential streets, separate from the closed Kahikatea route.

Choose the Collingwood Street circuit

Begin at Brougham and Collingwood streets and follow the steep street approach to the track map at the top. This entry follows council's named Grampians Walkway, not every track in the reserve and not the separate Kahikatea approach. Use the map to identify the return through Ronaki and Tawa before climbing. Council's short duration still describes a moderately hard outing, so allow extra rest time and do not advertise it as an easy family stroll.

Keep the return route in view

The path zigzags uphill towards a trig point, then continues through trees and a small gully before reaching the signed Ronaki turn. Follow the described descent and Tawa connection towards Endeavour Street. The final urban leg returns through the Fairfield Park area towards Brougham Street. Keep children together at street crossings and check each junction rather than following an attractive alternative downhill. No verified circuit distance is supplied, and the city's proximity does not remove the climbing effort.

Avoid closed alternative connections

The separate status page lists Ponga and Kahikatea closed because of slips, with a fallen tree also affecting Kahikatea. Those entries must not be ignored because a general walks page still describes routes through the reserve. Check entrance signs for changes to this particular circuit, since the status list can omit short closures. Take water, a weather layer and enough time to descend without rushing. If the intended return is unavailable, do not improvise through a signed closure.

Read the official track description and notices immediately before travelling. The source-check date is not a live access or safety report.
