Outdoor Next is an independent guide to camping, hiking and trip planning in New Zealand. Our aim is to make useful information easier to find without replacing the organisations responsible for land access, weather or safety.
Sources before certainty
For access rules, track information, bookings and vehicle requirements, our publishing standard is to check the relevant official source. This may be DOC, a council, a regulator or another land manager. Source-linked guides include the references used and a last-checked date. That date describes a review, not a promise of current conditions.
Research is not field testing
A researched guide does not mean that we have walked the track, stayed at the campsite or tested the equipment. We do not invent first-hand experiences, user reviews or equipment ratings. Any future field-tested content must explain who tested it, when and under what conditions.
When information changes
Fees, permissions, bookings and access can change after an article is reviewed. Unconfirmed core facts should keep a new location guide in draft. Follow the official links before making a booking or travelling, and use our conditions directory for the primary update sources.
Real photographs and clear attribution
Article photographs are checked against the source location and reuse licence. A photograph of a wider area is not presented as a view of a particular campsite. When a reusable campground photograph is unavailable, a guide may include clearly labelled general camping photographs alongside local context. These do not show the named campground or establish its facilities. Skills illustrations are also labelled, and capture dates are kept separate from our source-review dates. We do not use generated scenes to stand in for real places or copy social media photographs merely because they are public.
Photographer credits, original sources and licence links are provided with images and in our photography credits. A photograph does not establish current facilities, access or camping permission, and the photographer does not endorse our article.
Commercial independence
This edition is focused on information, not on selling equipment. A link to an operator is not evidence of independent testing or endorsement by DOC. Paid placements or affiliate relationships, if introduced, must be identified alongside the relevant content.
Corrections and accountability
Responsibility for published material remains with Outdoor Next. Our public contact channel is currently being updated; the contact page records its availability. For urgent access or safety questions, contact the responsible authority rather than waiting for an editorial response.
