Mackenzie Basin
Take in the lake and mountain setting, including the Church of the Good Shepherd on its shore. The daytime landscape offers a different reason to visit from the area's night-sky experiences.
Admission has not been confirmed. Check current visitor information, including transport and optional extras.
Respect the church as a place of worship and use public access areas around the shore.
Kaikoura
Enjoy a coastal setting where the mountains meet the Pacific. The town is a base for marine-wildlife experiences as well as time spent enjoying the shoreline.
Admission has not been confirmed. Check current visitor information, including transport and optional extras.
Give wildlife space. Book boat, kayak or flight experiences separately and confirm their weather requirements.
Tekapo / Aoraki Mackenzie
Explore the night sky within the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. Guided experiences can add telescope viewing and interpretation to an evening under the stars.
Admission has not been confirmed. Check current visitor information, including transport and optional extras.
Check the meeting point, clothing guidance and cloudy-weather policy. Clear skies are not guaranteed.
Central Christchurch
Explore established trees, seasonal displays and New Zealand plant collections beside the Avon River. Pick a garden section for a short visit or allow a longer outing through the wider park setting.
General garden entry is free; optional tours and purchases are additional.
Check the current garden map and gate arrangements. Guided rides, cafe purchases and parking are separate from general garden admission.
Heathcote Valley
Ride above the city for views towards the harbour and Canterbury landscape. Plan the transfer to the valley base as well as the gondola trip, rather than assuming it starts in the city centre.
Gondola travel is ticketed; transport to the base is not included in standard admission.
Check weather-related operation and ticket inclusions. A shuttle or public-bus trip is separate from the gondola admission.
Free refers to general entry or the named self-guided visit, not a whole day's costs. Transport, parking and extras may be additional. Check admission where residency or ticket choices differ.
