Terms of use

Last reviewed:

Outdoor Next, operated by an individual sole trader based in New Zealand, publishes guides to camping, walking and trip planning. These terms explain use of the website, member features and community contributions.

Using our content

You may read, link to and use our guides for your own trip planning. Respect copyright, photograph credits and any licence shown with a source. Linking to a guide does not give permission to republish whole articles, photographs or another member's content. Ask before other reuse unless a stated licence or the law permits it. Do not interfere with the site, bypass access controls or use it for unlawful activity.

Accuracy and outdoor safety

Our guides are researched planning information. Fees, facilities, access rules, weather and track conditions can change after review. We cannot guarantee that every page is complete, current or suitable for your circumstances. Community observations and photographs are not official safety advice, booking confirmation or permission to camp.

Check the relevant official source before travel: DOC or the land manager for access, the relevant council for local rules, MetService for weather, NZTA for state highways and the operator for bookings. Our official conditions directory links to these services. Make decisions suited to your ability, equipment and current conditions; a guide is not a substitute for those checks or professional advice. Read our editorial standards for how sources and review dates are used.

Member accounts

Give accurate account details, keep your password private and use only accounts you are authorised to access. Do not impersonate someone else or circumvent limits. Member settings provide export and account deletion tools. Outdoor accounts are separate from shop accounts and order records. Points, badges and community recognition have no cash value and are not safety qualifications. Features and reasonable usage limits may change as the service develops.

Community contributions and moderation

Follow the existing community and privacy terms. Share first-hand experiences, distinguish opinion from official rules and disclose any commercial interest. Do not post harassment, spam, dangerous advice, invented reviews, unlawful material or personal information about others without a lawful basis. Upload only material you own or have permission to share, with appropriate consent for identifiable people in photographs.

You retain ownership of your contributions. By submitting them, you allow Outdoor Next to store, resize and display them for the feature and visibility you choose, as described in the community terms. Public submissions require review. An unlisted link can be forwarded and is not private to named recipients. Authorised moderators may reject or remove submissions and restrict accounts for abuse. Private journals do not enter the public publication queue. Removing a share cannot recall copies other people have already saved.

External services and commercial links

Linked operators handle their own bookings and services on their own terms. A link does not establish official endorsement or first-hand testing. The online shop is closed to new orders; these website terms do not change rights relating to earlier purchases. Read our commercial disclosure for possible advertising, affiliate links and sponsored placements, and our privacy policy for personal information.

Responsibility and your rights

We aim to keep the site useful and available, but do not promise uninterrupted service or error-free information. To the extent New Zealand law permits, we exclude liability for losses arising from reliance on general guides or third-party content. This does not remove rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable consumer protections. We remain responsible for obligations the law places on us.

Questions, changes and New Zealand law

For privacy requests, use the Privacy Officer details on the privacy page. You can email hello@outdoornext.co.nz for general questions. Material changes to these terms should be explained with a new review date and notice appropriate to the affected feature; publishing revised terms does not by itself record a member's acceptance of a new version. New Zealand law applies, and disputes may be brought before the New Zealand courts, subject to any mandatory rights that apply to you.
