Whangarei
Pause at the waterfall reserve for river scenery and a picnic near the city. Choose the viewing area or a short local circuit rather than assuming the whole river walkway is accessible.

Check council notices: the connecting Hatea walkway swing bridge has a closure notice. Follow local barriers and use the available viewing areas.
Whangarei Town Basin
Explore unconventional architecture, the Hundertwasser exhibition and Wairau Maori Art Gallery at the harbour basin. Allow time for the building itself as well as the collections inside.
