Connect the journey to the booking

Anchorage is reached on foot or by boat, not by driving to the tent site. Confirm the campsite night first, then make a separate transport plan with realistic arrival and collection margins. A boat booking should include an agreed response to cancellation or a missed pickup. Walkers should calculate the day around their own pace and loaded packs, rather than treating a transfer operator's timetable as a walking estimate.

Expect an active beach stop

This is a scheduled water-taxi stop as well as a campground. Choose it for a practical coastal overnight rather than an expectation of solitude. Keep the things needed on arrival together so you can move luggage efficiently and establish camp without blocking other people. If travelling with children or a larger group, agree where bags will wait and who will remain with them while the rest locate an appropriate pitch.

Carry the whole sleeping system

Reserve through the Abel Tasman Great Walk booking system. Pack a tent, bedding and cooking equipment for the actual conditions, even if the transport plan makes the journey feel straightforward. Divide equipment so an individual arriving separately still has essential layers and food. Keep the booking details available offline. Before committing to an onward walk, check that route independently; having a campsite place does not settle its tide, weather or maintenance constraints.

Check the official campsite information for current restrictions, facilities and booking arrangements.
