Torpedo7's ownership changed in 2024, but an old news story is not a reliable guide to where you can shop today. The verified history below is deliberately separate from current retail availability. Before making a journey or placing an order, confirm the supplier's current details directly.

What the company announced

On 22 February 2024, The Warehouse Group announced through NZX that it had sold Torpedo7 to Tahua Partners for $1. That is a dated corporate announcement, not evidence that every store subsequently closed or that a particular online service is operating now.

For current information, start with Torpedo7's own update page. We have not verified today's store count, stock, delivery performance or handling of older orders. This guide therefore does not describe Torpedo7 as an online-only retailer or declare its whole former store network closed.

Start with the equipment you need

A change in one retailer's business does not mean you need to replace useful equipment or buy a complete new kit. Check what you already own, what can be repaired and what your next trip actually requires.

Use the camping packing list to find gaps, then prioritise shelter and a suitable sleep system. For a first outing, borrowing or hiring equipment can help you assess fit and practicality before a larger purchase. Inspect borrowed equipment just as carefully as new gear.

Compare suppliers by the questions they can answer

Item Questions to settle before buying
Tent Does the floor fit your mats, and are replacement poles available?
Sleeping bag and mat Which comfort and insulation ratings apply?
Stove Which fuel and cookware does the manual permit?
Boots and pack Can you check fit with the socks, clothing or load you will use?
Accessories Do the dimensions and fittings match your existing kit?

A technical outdoor shop, a tent specialist, a general retailer or a secondhand seller may each be useful for a different purchase. This is not a ranking of their current ranges, prices or quality. Compare the actual product and supplier, not a broad label such as premium or budget.

Read our tent guide, sleeping-bag ratings guide and stove guide before comparing listings.

Check support as carefully as price

Ask who supplies spare parts and handles a fault. Read the seller's current delivery, cancellation and returns information before ordering, particularly when buying clearance stock or a discontinued model. Keep the product description and receipt.

For an older Torpedo7 purchase, use the company's current support route with the original order details. Do not assume that a new retailer, former branch or differently named store will handle it without confirmation.

With secondhand equipment, inspect seams, poles, valves and other critical components, and confirm you can obtain the correct manual. A low price is less useful if a missing part prevents safe use.

Before you buy

  • Confirm the shop or ordering service is operating and has the item.
  • Compare the exact model and specifications, not only the brand.
  • Check total cost, delivery timing and spare-part support.
  • Test fit or dimensions before an expensive purchase.
  • Finish planning the campsite before buying equipment for it.

Frequently asked questions

Did The Warehouse Group sell Torpedo7?

Yes. Its NZX announcement dated 22 February 2024 announced a $1 sale to Tahua Partners. This is historical information, not confirmation of current store operations.

Does Torpedo7 still have stores or online shopping?

Use the company's current website and contact information to confirm. This guide does not verify a current store count, ordering service or a completed nationwide closure.

Where should I buy replacement camping gear?

Choose a supplier able to confirm the specifications, fit, compatibility and support you need. Inspect fitted items where possible and ask about spare parts before purchasing.
