Use the Rarangi approach
Rarangi offers road-access camping beside the beach near Blenheim. DOC directs arrivals through the local roads from Tuamarina to Rarangi Beach Road; use those directions rather than assuming an approach borrowed from Whites Bay or Robin Hood Bay. Check the council's road information before travelling, particularly after severe weather, and leave enough daylight to locate the campsite and settle your group.
Expect cold showers and untreated water
Flush toilets and cold showers give Rarangi more washing facilities than some basic coastal camps, but they do not imply hot water or an equipped kitchen. Bring cooking gear and boil the untreated tap water as directed. Keep a filled container available for arrival, so setting up camp does not immediately depend on locating a tap or organising a stove.
Book before making the beach your base
DOC requires advance booking and does not hold spaces for unbooked arrivals. Confirm the non-powered adult nightly total for your party, then save the booking details where you can access them offline. Dogs must be leashed. Treat the beach as a place whose conditions need their own assessment, not as a guaranteed swimming option, and review the current campsite notices again before departure.
Check the official campsite information for current restrictions, facilities and booking arrangements.
