Leave the vehicle at the ford
Everetts is no longer a drive-to-pitch stop under the checked access instructions. DOC directs visitors to park at Everetts Ford and continue on foot or by bike along the forestry road. Pack for carrying the whole camp, not for repeated trips to a nearby vehicle. Check the access advice again before leaving because a familiar road name does not mean its former access has returned.
Understand the damaged facilities
DOC says the toilets and camping areas have not been restored after cyclone damage. This is a substantial limitation, not a minor inconvenience to discover after arriving with children or a large group. Ask DOC how to meet sanitation requirements and whether the intended stay is appropriate. Choose a different campsite if your equipment or group cannot manage an overnight without a functioning toilet.
Keep the overnight self-sufficient
The campsite is free and unbooked, but you still need a complete tent, food, lighting and cooking setup. Boil drinking water as directed and do not plan a campfire. Dogs must be leashed. Keep the return journey manageable with the same load you carried in, including waste, and leave enough flexibility to turn back rather than treating reaching the campsite as an obligation.
Check the official campsite information for current restrictions, facilities and booking arrangements.
