Choose the site before the drive

Lake Paringa is beside SH6 north of Haast, and DOC distinguishes vehicle spaces from tent camping. Match the booking to what you will actually bring, including a trailer or a separate tent, rather than selecting any available space. Keep the site map with the confirmation. If the vehicle changes after booking, check the arrangement again before arrival so an otherwise simple overnight does not begin with a space problem.

Leave room for lakeside activity

The lake is the focus here, with boating and fishing identified by DOC. Keep overnight gear within the camping area and think about how others need to move through the access spaces. An evening beside the tent can be enough without launching a boat or adding a walk after a long drive. Decide on water activities only after assessing actual conditions and the skills and equipment available in your party.

Treat the reservation as specific

Use the space or camping category you booked, not a convenient-looking area nearby. Prepare a meal and lighting plan that works without a power connection, and have drinking water ready for the first evening. Put tomorrow's travel essentials where they can be reached during pack-up. Before leaving, compare the area with how you found it and collect any small items around chairs, tent pegs or vehicle storage compartments that were opened during the stay.

Check the official campsite information for current restrictions, facilities and booking arrangements.
