Basic Ngaruroro River camping below the Napier-Taihape Road on the edge of Kaweka Forest Park.
Leave the main road for the river
Kuripapango's Ox Bow campground lies down a gravel access from the Napier-Taihape Road near the Ngaruroro River. It is a different camping choice from Cameron beside the main road. Confirm which entrance you intend to use before travelling with others, and leave enough daylight to inspect the descent and available ground. A short distance on the map does not establish current road suitability.
Make the river a setting, not a promise
The river and edge-of-forest position suit a quiet base for a night or a longer planned outing. Choose the pitch after checking local signs and ground conditions rather than assuming the closest riverside space is the best. Fishing, rafting and swimming are activities mentioned by DOC, not guarantees that water levels or the group's skills will make those activities appropriate on your arrival day.
Keep the basic camp genuinely independent
First-come camping leaves you responsible for a lawful alternative if there is no suitable space. Bring water or treatment equipment, cooking gear and everything needed for the night. The dog exception is for specified permitted purposes, not general pet-friendly camping. Read the exact conditions before taking an animal. Check any onward Kaweka road or track separately, because restrictions elsewhere in the park can affect the next day's plan.
Check the official campsite information for current restrictions, facilities and booking arrangements.
