Diamond Lake is a vehicle-camping option on the Glenorchy-Paradise route. It is not the right shortlist entry for a tent holiday: DOC expressly limits suitability to campervans and caravans. Establish that fit before considering the lakeside setting.
Match the stay to the vehicle
The campground lists ten vehicle sites and a maximum of 50 people. Non-flush toilets and stream water are confirmed, but electrical hookups are not.
Work through an evening without shore power before booking: lighting, food storage and device charging should all be manageable with your own arrangement. A motorhome symbol indicates access, not a promise of power or a waste-disposal station. Our campsite selection guide helps separate those questions.
Book the correct overnight
Reservations are required. DOC lists NZ$10 per adult per night for camping, without identifying a separate powered or non-powered category. That rate is shown in the guide but is not used as a verified non-powered comparison price.
Check the complete party total and save the confirmation before leaving reliable access to the booking service. Keep a record of any vehicle-specific answer from DOC alongside it. Neither a low fee nor an accepted booking establishes what extras can be fitted beside the vehicle.
Consider road and weather together
The campsite is 17 km from Glenorchy, with 9 km of gravel after Rees River Bridge. DOC warns that heavy rain can flood the camping area.
Review the forecast and access advice before committing to the final approach. Keep an alternative overnight plan that does not require crossing the same uncertain section twice late in the day. A reservation should remain changeable in your thinking when the ground or road situation changes.
Arrive ready for basic facilities
Bring drinking water or a suitable treatment plan rather than treating stream proximity as a drinking-water service. Dogs and fires are prohibited.
Organise the vehicle so the first meal and overnight essentials can be reached without placing every bag outside. Choose the day's water activity only after assessing conditions separately from campsite access. Recheck the official Diamond Lake page before travelling.

Common questions
Can I put up a tent beside my campervan?
DOC describes the campground as suitable for campervans and caravans only. Do not assume a vehicle booking permits a separate tent; confirm with DOC before making that plan.
Does vehicle camping include electricity?
Electrical hookups are not confirmed by the checked source. The directory therefore does not treat the campsite as a verified powered option.
