Plan for the open season
Anaura Bay's DOC campground is a seasonal stay, not an available stop throughout the year. On the review date it is closed, with the next booking period advertised from late October. Check the date offered by DOC before organising travel. Take care to select the DOC campground rather than the separately operated motor camp sharing the bay's name.
Treat sanitation as essential equipment
You must bring or have access to a chemical toilet; a tent booking does not remove that requirement. DOC lists cassette disposal during the camping season, but no communal toilets. Water is limited and the site asks campers to bring their own. Plan food, washing and drinking supplies together so a longer stay does not depend on an assumed tap supply or unverified kitchen.
Arrive ready for the coast
Complete the booking online and retain the confirmation, because the site-specific instructions do not offer phone or in-person bookings. Read the coastal hazard guidance with everyone in the group before setting up. Identify the route to higher ground and make water activities a separate decision based on conditions and ability. Pack to remove rubbish outside the limited holiday collection period, and keep dogs leashed.
Check the official campsite information for current restrictions, facilities and booking arrangements.
