Travel east from Waihi Beach through Katikati and a Papamoa base to Ohope, keeping harbour outings separate from the longer accommodation move.

This is a suggested itinerary, not a booked package or a guarantee that roads, walks or overnight sites are available.

Day 1: Settle at Waihi Beach

Start at Waihi Beach with your overnight arranged and enough food to avoid depending on a late meal out. Spend the remaining daylight around the settlement, choosing a modest shore outlook only where current conditions allow. Do not make a remote beach walk part of the arrival commitment. Check the campground's actual entrance and your booked accommodation category before unpacking. Tomorrow moves towards Katikati and Tauranga, so keep today's programme light enough to enjoy a rested start.

Overnight: Waihi Beach

Day 2: Katikati murals, then a Papamoa base

Leave Waihi Beach for Katikati and make the town's outdoor murals a possible break rather than a timed tour. Continue towards Tauranga and your confirmed Papamoa accommodation, allowing the afternoon for traffic, shopping and setting up. Save the main waterfront outing for tomorrow instead of doubling back after check-in. Review where your campground actually sits before choosing dinner transport. The regional tourism sequence supports this eastward progression but does not establish an arrival time or a free pitch.

Overnight: Papamoa

Day 3: Tauranga waterfront without a camp move

Keep the same Papamoa base and choose a Tauranga waterfront visit around The Strand. Decide the day's transport and parking before leaving, then allow time for lunch instead of collecting several distant attractions. This plan does not require a Mauao climb, a kayak booking or a waterfall detour. Return to Papamoa with time to organise tomorrow's move. A coastal address is not evidence of safe swimming, and watching the water from land is enough for today's itinerary.

Overnight: Papamoa

Day 4: Move east through Whakatane to Ohope

Make the eastward move to Whakatane and Ohope today's main undertaking. Check the highway corridor and the local approach to your confirmed overnight before departure, then leave room for a rest in Whakatane if needed. Continue to Ohope and unpack before considering any local stroll. Do not attach a full coastal walking circuit to this transfer. Use the evening to identify tomorrow's harbourside entrance and return arrangement rather than assuming every waterfront path joins into one loop.

Overnight: Ohope

Day 5: An Ohiwa harbourside outing and finish

Choose a manageable portion of Ohope's Harbourside Trail beside Ohiwa Harbour, with an agreed turnaround instead of expecting a circuit. Carry a layer and leave the length of the outing flexible after checking local notices. Return to your Ohope base for lunch or packing. This day does not include the tidal coastal route via Otarawairere or a boat excursion. Arrange another Ohope night only if needed; an onward journey to East Cape would require a separate plan.

Overnight: Ohope; optional final night

Keep the journey coastal

Tourism Bay of Plenty describes the Waihi Beach, Katikati, Tauranga, Papamoa and eastward Whakatane progression. The two Papamoa nights and Ohope finish are editorial choices, not its published timetable. Rotorua, Taupo and East Cape are outside this trip. Confirm both highway and local-road conditions instead of treating the tourism route as an all-clear.

Separate harbourside and headland walking

Whakatane's visitor guide identifies the Ohope Harbourside Trail beside Ohiwa Harbour. It separately warns of tidal limitations on the Otarawairere section of the longer coastal circuit. The latter is not included here. Check current path notices, keep to the chosen land route and arrange your return; no water activity, wildlife sighting or step-free access is promised.

Reserve the three overnight bases

Book Waihi Beach, two Papamoa nights and Ohope independently, with any fifth night optional. Park profiles are existing comparisons, not fresh checks of pools, shops, services or vacancies. Confirm pitch dimensions and arrival arrangements with each host. The tent cover is a licensed Yosemite illustration, not a Bay of Plenty campsite photograph or a suggested place to pitch.
