Keep the river visit separate from the overnight
Raumai is a reserve beside the Pohangina River, not simply an unrestricted riverbank where every clear patch is a pitch. Start by finding the camping boundary, then decide how much space your group needs. Leave access for day visitors and avoid spreading equipment across shared grass. A compact camp is easier to supervise and easier to move if you decide conditions are unsuitable.
Plan around the verified facilities
The council lists public toilets and a rubbish bin, but the checked entry does not establish drinking water, showers, power or a shared kitchen. Bring a practical overnight kit rather than relying on facilities associated with another campsite. Keep food and cooking gear contained, and carry enough drinking water to avoid making an unverified river supply part of your meal plan.
Confirm the local rules on arrival
Tents, caravans and self-contained or non-self-contained vehicles are included in the council's Raumai entry. Check current signs and the council map for the precise area and duration allowed, because the complete bylaw was unavailable to this review. Dogs must remain under control. Before leaving home, identify an alternative permitted stay so a full reserve does not turn into improvised camping along the road.
Check the official campsite information for current restrictions, facilities and booking arrangements.
