Try the exact size and width
Use your hiking socks and check toe clearance and heel hold on an incline. Do not assume standard and wide versions fit the same.

Outdoor footwear buying advice
Before you buy
Match terrain and conditions
Consider sole design, support, breathability and drying needs. A waterproof membrane does not make every shoe suitable for every environment.
Check the tested version
Look for the same generation, low or mid cut, membrane and fit. Reviews of a previous model or non-waterproof version may not transfer.
From first use to the next trip
Use, care & repair
01Trial locally
Walk with your planned socks and load before a remote trip. Address pressure points or heel movement early.
02Care for the materials
Remove dirt and follow the manufacturer's cleaning, treatment and drying instructions. Avoid heat or washing methods the manufacturer prohibits.
Care & repair · Kathmandu
Kathmandu product-care guide libraryScope & source notes
Manufacturer care-guide index for tents, backpacks, down or synthetic sleeping bags and hiking boots, not an exact-product manual. Choose the section matching your product and material; boot guidance is not automatically applicable to sandals or accessories. The original manual and care label take precedence, including for other brands sold by Kathmandu.
Common buying questions
Good to know
Should I buy the same size as my everyday shoes?
Use the brand's size guidance and try the exact model with hiking socks. Foot shape, width and downhill toe room matter.
Are waterproof hiking shoes always better?
Not automatically. Consider expected moisture, temperature, breathability and drying time alongside fit and terrain.
Does a review of the low shoe apply to the mid boot?
Only in limited ways. Cut, fit, weight and support can differ; look for an exact-version review or a clearly labelled comparison.
