Treatment limitations
Read the manufacturer's claims for bacteria, protozoa and viruses separately. Do not assume a filter removes chemical contamination or makes all sources safe.

Water buying advice
Before you buy
A workable water system
Check capacity, refill access, bottle threads and clean/dirty water handling. Plan water sources and a backup appropriate to the trip.
Lifetime and care
Check cleaning, replacement and freezing limitations. A flow-rate claim is not the same as performance with silty water.
From first use to the next trip
Use, care & repair
01Practise the complete system
Check connections and cleaning instructions before departure. If the product includes a treatment component, follow its exact preparation and operating instructions.
02Store as instructed
Use the manufacturer's sanitation and storage procedure. Where a treatment system is involved, keep clean-side components separate from untreated water.

Good to know
Does every water filter remove viruses?
No. Verify the exact treatment claims and limitations. Choose a treatment method suitable for the source and follow official trip advice.
Will any bottle fit?
Check thread, adapter and valve compatibility for the precise filter or reservoir, rather than relying on bottle capacity or appearance.
