Stay in Picton for a harbour arrival, a Tirohanga lookout day and a shorter Momorangi forest visit, with no ferry or Queen Charlotte Track dependency.

This is a suggested itinerary, not a booked package or a guarantee that roads, walks or overnight sites are available.

Day 1: An arrival day around Picton harbour

Check into the Picton holiday park and take an easy harbour-side wander once the vehicle is organised. If you have just arrived by ferry, allow the actual arrival to determine how much sightseeing remains. Buy lunch supplies and look over the next day's walking options before dinner. Keep this day local rather than heading straight along the Sounds roads; a delayed crossing should not remove the only margin in the itinerary.

Overnight: Picton

Day 2: Tirohanga lookout or a lower harbour walk

Choose Tirohanga Track for a climb above Picton if the forecast and group fitness suit. Use a same-way return from the lookout so the outing does not grow into an unfamiliar street circuit. For less climbing, consider a suitable Victoria Domain harbour-side section after checking its access. Eat back in town and retain your Picton pitch. Neither choice needs a Queen Charlotte Track transfer or a boat to complete the return.

Overnight: Picton

Day 3: Momorangi forest and a return to town

Check Queen Charlotte Drive before a daylight visit to Momorangi. Use the public visitor parking and find the Forest Experience Walk from the campground road, following the short signed loop. Keep the visit focused on the forest and bay rather than extending into another Sounds valley. Return to Picton for your final overnight. If road or weather information is unfavourable, stay in town instead; this day does not need a replacement boat trip.

Overnight: Picton

Keep ferry and camping bookings separate

Confirm Picton campsite category and arrival instructions, especially after a sailing. Do not infer a ferry schedule from this route. Momorangi is an alternative camping choice only after its own booking and access checks, not an included second base. The historical Momorangi campground cover provides context for the day visit; it does not show the planned Picton overnight.

Match the outing to the conditions

A wet or windy day may justify abandoning Tirohanga rather than chasing a viewpoint. Momorangi is a shorter option on another suitable day, not proof that forest tracks are safe during severe weather. Check local Sounds roads independently; the absence of a warning in a tourism description is not an opening confirmation.
