Use one Hahei camp to separate Cathedral Cove walking from Hot Water Beach, allowing the tide and coastal forecast to decide the order.

This is a suggested itinerary, not a booked package or a guarantee that roads, walks or overnight sites are available.

Day 1: Hahei arrival and coastal checks

Settle at Hahei Beach's holiday park and keep the first afternoon within the village and beach frontage. Review the next two days' coastal forecast and date-specific tide predictions, then decide which outing belongs on which day. Save the Cathedral Cove access information before leaving camp. A late arrival should remain an arrival day; there is no benefit in squeezing a cove descent between checking in and preparing dinner.

Overnight: Hahei

Day 2: Cathedral Cove with a complete return plan

If DOC's notices and the sea conditions suit, approach Cathedral Cove from the authorised main track. Grange Road is not a parking destination: arrange the visitor-car-park connection before starting. Keep energy for the uphill return and do not make passing through the arch essential to the outing. If rain or waves rule it out, stay in Hahei and move this walk to another day rather than seeking an unofficial shortcut.

Overnight: Hahei

Day 3: Hot Water Beach when the timing works

Give Hot Water Beach its own outing around a suitable low tide instead of racing there after Cathedral Cove. Check sea conditions on arrival and keep the visit on shore if swimming is unsuitable. Pack a change of clothes and a simple lunch, then return to Hahei for an unhurried afternoon. If the tide falls at an awkward hour, keep a local beach day; digging a pool is optional, not a deadline.

Overnight: Hahei

Reserve the base, then decide the order

Confirm Hahei camping dates, vehicle or tent category and cancellation terms. A park booking does not include a shuttle, boat or cove access. If using transport for Cathedral Cove, obtain the actual return arrangements separately; this plan includes no timetable. Use the existing walking article to identify approaches that must not be treated as interchangeable.

Tides do not override coastal hazards

DOC warns against Cathedral Cove during or immediately after heavy rain and in rough seas. A favourable tide does not remove those hazards. Use a village rest day during a warning; a different nearby beach is not automatically safer. No date-specific tide, weather clearance or future track opening is claimed here.
